Labor Day weekend is the last big one before the Sandwich Fair takes over, and there is a lot happening within twenty minutes of downtown Sandwich. Here is what is going on, and where we fit into it.
Friday, September 4 - Sandwich Hosts Plano, 7:15 PM
The one everybody circles. The Indians host Plano at home Friday night with a 7:15 kickoff. It is a short drive from our front door, so the plan writes itself: eat first, walk into the game on a full stomach.
If you are not making it to the field, we are putting the game on the 98 inch TV. Friday drink specials run all night: $4 premium drafts, $1 off signature drinks, and $4 bombs.
Thursday through Sunday - Yorkville Hometown Days
Hometown Days runs Thursday, September 3 through Sunday, September 6 at Beecher Community Park in Yorkville. It is one of the biggest community festivals in the area and it pulls from all over Kendall and DeKalb County. If you are coming back east afterward, we are about twenty minutes down the road.
Saturday, September 5 - College Football Returns
Northern Illinois opens its season at Iowa on Saturday afternoon, 3:15 PM on Big Ten Network. It is the Huskies' first game in the Mountain West, and DeKalb County has a rooting interest. Saturday specials: $1 off all vodkas, $4.50 seltzers, and $15 domestic buckets.
Monday, September 7 - The Shake Up Shuffle
The Sandwich Fair Shake Up Shuffle 5K and 1 Mile run Labor Day morning at the Sandwich Fairgrounds, and this year the race sold out. The post-race celebration wraps up around midday, which puts a lot of hungry people on Suydam Road right around lunch. If you ran it, come refuel. You earned it.
Coming Right Behind It - The Sandwich Fair
The Sandwich Fair runs September 9 through 13 at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. It is the oldest continuous county fair in Illinois and it is the busiest week of the year in this town. Start planning now, because parking gets interesting.
